Cancer sucks. Period. Unfortunately, all too many of us know someone who has been affected by some sort of cancer during our lives. As the world focuses on many issues, one that still remains is the impact of the most prevalent form of cancer, breast cancer.

One organization out there fighting for a cure is Brakes for Breasts, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020. Brakes for Breasts unites independent auto repair shops throughout the US during the month of October to raise funds for breast cancer research, specifically the Cleveland Clinic’s Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund. The participating Repair Shop provides their customers with free brake pads and the customer simply pays for the labor and any other parts that may be needed. The shop then donates 10% of that total to the Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund, and 100% of the funds are used directly for research.

“We are on the verge of testing our breast cancer vaccine in clinical trials, and philanthropy has been the foundation of this progress. Without the extensive and generous support I have received from Brakes for Breasts, I would have had to end my research on immune prevention of breast cancer several years ago,” said Vincent K. Tuohy, Ph.D. The Cleveland Clinic is hoping to begin Phase 1 trials of a vaccine in 2021.

Evan’s Auto Care is proud to join Brakes for Breasts this year, along with nine other Cincinnati auto repair shops. We hope to contribute a great deal while keeping vehicles safe on the road. Please spread the word, and let’s all put the brakes on breast cancer!
